Free Training for Florida Statute 768.0706 Compliance After a CPTED Assessment

In March of 2023, HB 837 introduced Florida Statute 768.0706, which lays out crucial measures to enhance security and mitigate liability in negligence cases. Under this statute, owners and principal operators of multifamily housing properties are granted a presumption against liability in security negligence cases if specific security measures are implemented.

Florida Statute 768.0706(2c) requires the owner or principal operator of a multifamily residential property to provide proper crime deterrence and safety training to its current employees by January 2025. After January 1, 2025, the owner or principal operator must provide such training to an employee within 60 days after his or her hire date. This training should be focused on training and familiarizing employees with the security principles, devices, measures, and standards set forth under paragraph (a).

Crime deterrence training is one component of Florida Statute 768.0706 compliance. The statute requires both a certified CPTED assessment and employee training within specific timeframes.
